People Who Shop Online Save An Average of £2,702 a Year

On average, people who shop online save £2,702 a year by surfing around for deals on holidays, insurance, clothes, home wares, music, books, kids’ items, and electricals.

The biggest fall is in the weekly food shop, which has gone down from £71.22 spent in stores in 2000, to £48.98 now when done online. Over 10 years that would have saved £11,564.

Two-thirds of people now make most of their purchases online, the poll of 3,000 shoppers by an Internet firm found.

It says the average person buying a car online now spends £4,540 compared to £5,988 at a dealership in 2000.

They fork out nearly £300 less a year on clothes by going online.

And comparison websites have pushed the average amount paid for a package holiday down from £930 to £772. The average person now spends 22 hours a week on the Internet, compared to just six hours a decade ago.

Nine of 10 people polled were sure they save money by shopping online. Just over half said they no longer had time to go to the high street.
